What a gift planner app actually does

The problem it exists for

There is one specific moment a gift planner is built for: the one where you remember the birthday is tomorrow. The idea you had in October is gone, the shops are shut, and you turn up with whatever was left. A planner moves that moment weeks earlier — to somewhere you can still do something about it.

Most people run this on memory, a notes app, and luck. That works until you have a lot of people: a mum, a brother, three best friends, a godmother and a partner, with Christmas and a dozen private anniversaries alongside them. At that point the head stops being a reliable place to keep it.

What Gift It keeps for you

The days. Occasions run down the screen in order, each with how far along you are — two of three ideas sorted, birthday in two days. You keep only the days you actually mark, whatever your faith or family does, and you can add private ones nobody else would think of: the day she got the studio, the night of her first sale.

The people. Everyone you buy for sits on one list — who they are to you, how many ideas are waiting against their name, and how long you have got. Each person gets a page of their own: what they are into, the budget you set and what is left of it, and every idea with where it has got to.

The ideas. Heard someone mention a thing they loved? Two taps and it is saved to their name for later. Every idea moves through four states — idea, bought, wrapped, given — so the app can tell you what is still outstanding rather than just what you once thought of. Paste a shop link and the title, image and price are filled in for you.

The reminder is the point

A planner you have to remember to open is just the problem again with an extra step. Gift It's nudge arrives a week out, and again the night before, saying what is still to buy or wrap — not a cheerful notification on the morning itself, when it is already too late to matter.

When you run out of ideas

Sparks is the part that helps when the well is dry. Unlock it once and it suggests ideas for a person based on what you have written about them, with a rough price and where to look. It has a monthly fair-use limit rather than a subscription. What you have written about the person is sent to Claude at the moment you ask and is not kept afterwards.

Private by default

Who you give to is nobody's business. Gift It works without an account, and nothing you save is backed up or shared until you sign in and choose to share it. When more than one of you is buying for the same person, you can share that one person's list — one person, not your whole app — and the other side has to accept before anything is visible to them.
